Budleigh Carol Competition

Budleigh Carol Competition

Budleigh Carol Composition Competition 2014
Thank you for taking an interest in this competition for a new Christmas Carol, which is being sponsored by the Budleigh Music Festival (BMF).

The competition guidelines are as follows:

1.The Budleigh Music Festival is offering a first prize of £300 and a première performance by one of the world’s foremost a cappella groups, Voces8 (www.voces8.com), on December 9th 2014. There will be a second prize of £200 and a third prize of £100 but with no performance for either.

2.Entrants may be of any age and from any country, the only people not permitted to enter are those associated closely with BMF and the competition jury.

3.The composition should be for an a cappella mixed voice choir (SATB) and if parts are divided, please note that Voces8 consists of two voices to each part. It should be suitable for a good amateur choir to perform.

4.The carol must be original, not previously performed or recorded; and should last for no more than 5 minutes.

5.The text may be religious or secular. Any copyright issues over the text must be resolved by the composer before submitting it for the competition. BMF will assume that such matters have been resolved and will accept no responsibility in this area.

6.All entrants will retain the copyright of the work but will be required to grant to BMF the right to produce and retain sufficient copies for adjudication and performance. The Festival reserves the performing rights up to the first performance.

7.Scores must be typeset to a professional standard on A4-size pages (clearly numbered). Four copies of the score should be sent by post, with a covering letter giving the composer’s name, address, telephone number and e-mail address. These copies should have no name or identification markings on them. The administrator will acknowledge receipt of scores, but will not return any material submitted.

10.In all matters relating to the competition, the decision of the jury is final.  Submitting an entry for the competition indicates the entrant’s unqualified acceptance of the above terms. The organisers retain the right to withhold all or any of the prizes on the advice of the jury.
