Community Choral Day
27 June 2025|10:00 am

WITH JASON THORNTON
Elgar: Sea Pictures (arr. D. Fraser) and Whitacre: Seal Lullaby
Building on two successful choral days led by our Patron, Bob Chilcott, this year we welcome our Artistic Director, Jason Thornton, with a rare opportunity to explore Donald Fraser’s choral arrangement of Edward Elgar’s Sea Pictures, first recorded by the Rodolfus Choir in 2013. Jason is an authority on the music of Elgar having conducted the US west coast première of Elgar’s Symphony No 1 and the first performance of The Dream of Gerontius in mainland China. He will bring together his wide experience of conducting some of the best choirs in the country and expertise in shaping an orchestral sound to create a unique choral workshop.
In addition, we will be singing Whitacre’s beautiful Seal Lullaby, a setting of the poem by Rudyard Kipling composed in 2008.
The showcase performance at 5pm will once again feature members of the BMF Junior Choir.
