From Deep Within to Deep Space: Elgar & Holst Reimagined
Edward Elgar: Cello Concerto arr. Iain Farrington
Gustav Holst: The Planets Suite arr. George Morton
This concert marks the debut of Crescent Collective, a new virtuosic chamber orchestra dedicated to bringing orchestral masterpieces into more intimate spaces through superbly crafted reductions. Conducted by Budleigh Festival Artistic Director Jason Thornton, the evening opens with Elgar’s Cello Concerto, one of the most iconic and emotionally charged works in British music, performed by outstanding young Australian cellist James Morley, whose expressive depth promises a riveting and fresh interpretation.
The perspective then expands from the soul to the cosmos with Holst’s Planets Suite, accompanied by screens showing a mesmerising sequence of NASA imagery choreographed by video artist Adrian Wyard. This fusion of live performance and celestial visuals offers a spellbinding reimagining of Holst’s monumental score.
This concert will finish at c. 9.30pm and includes a 20 minute interval.
This concert is kindly sponsored by donations from the Budleigh Music Festival Friends.
