Zum Roten Igel (To the Red Hedgehog) is the name of both the major concert venue in Vienna during Schubert’s life and the tavern behind it where folk bands played and composers caroused late into the night. For a time, Schubert lived next door.
ZRI present Schubert’s Quintet in C Major, reimagined to sound as radical as when it was first performed. Bursting with Gypsy and Hungarian themes, it is re-scored to include clarinet, santouri (cimbalom) and accordion and interleaved with traditional tunes, reflecting the daring and profound qualities of the original composition.
Concert timing: this concert will finish at approximately 9.30pm and includes an interval.
This concert has been kindly sponsored by Bernard Hadley
