ARMONICO CONSORT with the English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble

    Director: Christopher Monks

CLAUDIO MONTEVERDI                        Vesper Della Berta Vergine of 1610

Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610, is a unique musical masterpiece, celebrating the pomp, pageantry and brilliance of the Italian Renaissance. Taking influence from the glorified architecture of St Marks Basilica Venice with all its incense infused archways, galleries and intricate patterning, the work is a testament to the genius of Monteverdi which still has the power to astonish and amaze over 400 years later.

Making their Budleigh Music Festival debut are the innovative and brilliant Armonico Consort with their founding Music Director Christopher Monks. Critically acclaimed for their historically informed performances, this promises to be one of the highlights of the festival. Joining them are the vibrant and dynamic early music group the English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble.

This is a very rare opportunity to experience one of the greatest pieces of all time performed by some of the finest musicians working in this field today.

This concert has been kindly sponsored by the Sampimon Trust.
