DAME SARAH CONNOLLY

One of Britain’s most acclaimed mezzo-sopranos, Sarah takes this year’s ‘Legend’ spot at the Budleigh Music Festival. A multi-award winning musician, she has appeared in recitals in London, throughout the US and Europe and at the Aldeburgh, Cheltenham, Edinburgh and Oxford Lieder Festivals. In the 2018/19 season she curated a Residency at Wigmore Hall.
As a renowned opera singer, her credits include Glyndebourne, the Royal Opera House and La Scala, ranging from Handel to Wagner.
In 2017 she was made DBE, having previously been honoured as CBE in 2011.
Her many concert engagements include appearances at the Lucerne, Salzburg, Tanglewood and Three Choirs Festivals and at the BBC Proms where she was a memorable guest soloist at The Last Night in 2009. A prolific recording artist, she is also committed to promoting new music. Sarah will be accompanied by her regular collaborator Joseph Middleton, a critically acclaimed lied accompanist. She will perform a range of music including Elgar’s Sea Pictures.
