The evening will mix the power and serenity of Bach with the fragrant beauty and dazzling virtuosity of Indian classical Ragas. The programme will include haunting traditional folk music from Assam and Bengal contrasting with excerpts from Bach’s Partitas and Sonatas for solo violin. Amaan, Ayaan and Jennifer Pike will join forces for Ragas written by the great Indian musician Amjad Ali Khan bringing the musical cultures together in exotic timbral colour, fantastical rhythmic invention and boundless improvised virtuosity.

Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash have performed across the globe including appearances at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center in the US, Royal Festival Hall, Symphony Hall and Barbican Centre in the UK, Konzerthaus Vienna, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Sydney Opera House. They have also appeared at festivals including WOMAD, the Edinburgh International Festival and the BBC Proms.

Jennifer Pike first gained international recognition in 2002, when aged 12, she became the youngest-ever winner of the BBC Young Musician competition and the youngest major prize winner in the Menuhin International Violin Competition.

Listen here to the recent Radio3 In Tune interview of Jennifer Pike by Suan Rafferty – starting 39 minutes into the programme.
