LARA MELDA and the CARDUCCI QUARTET
5 July|7:30 pm
Details
LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN String Quartet Op.59 No.2
PHILIP GLASS String Quartet No.3
FREDERIC CHOPIN Piano Concerto No.1
We welcome back the brilliant Carducci Quartet and the young virtuoso pianist Lara Melda to the Festival for the first time. The Carducci Quartet, which has played around the world to critical acclaim, joins forces with Lara Melda, winner of the 2010 BBC Young Musician competition and Alfred Brendel’s only student, for a fascinating evening of chamber music of the highest calibre.
The second of Beethoven’s Rasumovsky Quartets, Op.59 No.2, is rich with drama and pathos with one of his most beautiful slow movements, while Philip Glass’ 3rd String Quartet is derived from the soundtrack of a film based on the life of Yukio Mishima. To hear Chopin’s First Piano Concerto arranged for string quartet and piano brings its lines into clear focus and highlights the intimacy of this glorious work.
This concert is dedicated to the memory of Roger Bowen, our founder and ambassador.
