Sophie and Magdalenna are The Corelia Project. The Corelia Project works to elevate women composers in classical music – through concert performances of their works, through the promotion of their achievements and through the cataloging of their repertoire. This concert promises to be not just enjoyable but also interesting and informative, as it spotlights the work of women composers, looking from the early years through to current times.

Magdalenna’s accolades include Australian National Young Virtuoso of the Year, 3 MBS Young Performer awards. She holds a Master of Performance from the Royal College of Music, where she won the RCM Clarinet Prize and was a RCM Mills Williams Junior Fellow. She has played principal clarinet with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the English National Opera and was a ROSL competition finalist.

Sophie trained at the Royal College of Music and is a graduate of Royal Holloway. She plays at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican Centre, and balances freelancing with concerts administration. Her passion to enact positive change in the classical music led to her founding the Corelia Project with Magdalenna.

Founded by Magdalenna and Sophie, the Corelia Project seeks to elevate the voice of women and other marginalised genders in classical music through the performance and promotion of their works. In March 2023 the Corelia Project launched a database of women composers and their repertoire, enabling instrumentalists around the world to access a broader range of music and expand their own programmes. Alongside this, they have established a series of Corelia Concerts to showcase repertoire by women, which they perform throughout London and beyond.

This concert includes works by women composers, including: Hildegard von Bingen, Rhian Samuel, Clara Schumann, Barbara Kolb, Yvonne Desportes, Florence Price Libby Larsen and Theresa Martin

This concert is kindly sponsored by Reed Tiverton.
